- Budget individual health insurance cover: With this type of policy, normally only inpatient and day care treatment is covered. This is when you are allocated a bed for treatment for an operation. Outpatient costs such as consultant fees and diagnostic tests are not covered.
- Standard individual health insurance cover: This type of policy covers the same as a budget policy but in addition offers an amount of outpatient cover covering consultations; diagnostic tests; scans; radiotherapy & chemotherapy and complementary medicine such as physiotherapy; osteopathy, visit to a chiropractor and homeopathy. The budget covering outpatient cover is usually limited to £300 - £2000 per member per year - depending on the Insurer.
- Comprehensive Individual Medical Insurance: These policies are very much the top of the range offering full cover, usually without any monetary limits on the outpatient cover together with full inpatient cover. MRI/CT scans, complementary medicine and many other benefits are included and additional benefits such as dental, worldwide travel and psychiatric cover can be added. The comprehensive plan would be an excellent choice if you require complete peace of mind.
